Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the new video calling feature during an event at Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto.

“We think this is awesome because we’re using the best technology that’s out there for doing video chat with the best social infrastructure that’s out there,” Zuckerberg said.

Hunter Matthews is lucky to be alive and can safely say that social media platform Facebook saved her life.

The 17-year-old student was home alone and asleep at her 65-year-old grandmother’s Charnley St unit in Kearneys Spring, Queensland on Monday night when a heater ignited clothing and the mattress she was asleep on.

Hackers Tweet “Obama Is Dead”

The Twitter feed for Fox News’ political news - FoxNewspolitics - sent out a series of “malicious and false tweets”, starting around 2am local time (4pm AEDT), Fox News confirmed in a statement. The posts had not been taken down hours later.

“BarackObama has just passed. The President is dead. A sad 4th of July, indeed. President Barack Obama is dead,” read the first of the Obama-related tweets.

The Beer Baron & The Blind Pig Under Investigation

Undercover liquor inspectors ordered spirits and beer using phone numbers listed on two Facebook pages in the early hours of Saturday after a report by Fairfax Media last month exposed a loophole in liquor licensing laws.

It is understood the two operators targeted were The Blind Pig Sydney and The Beer Baron.

Justin Timberlake To Buy A Share Of MySpace

Justin Timberlake apparently wasn’t satisfied with just playing a social media impresario in the movies, so now he’s becoming one in real life.

The pop star, who played Napster co-founder Sean Parker in The Social Network, a movie about Facebook, has joined Specific Media in buying its downtrodden rival, MySpace, from News Corp in a deal that closed Wednesday in the US.

The Pope Is A Tweeter

Pope Benedict, who at 84 still handwrites his speeches rather than use a computer, used an iPad to publish his first post on Twitter.

The pontiff tapped in English on the tablet device: ”Dear Friends, I just launched News.va. Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI.”

Unfair Dismissal For Online Chat

Richard O’Connor, a landscape architect was fired for overusing an email chat service has been found to have been unfairly dismissed. It is the latest case for Fair Work Australia that deals with internet and social media use in the workplace.

He had been employed by Outdoor Creations, in Melbourne. He had resigned and was about to leave the job when he was abruptly sacked for more than ”3000 transactions on a chat line during work time”.

Underage & On Facebook

A NSW school whose students participated in a Facebook site used for cyber-bullying has threatened to expel students under 13 who are using the social networking site.

In an email to parents the principal of Northern Beaches Christian School, Stephen Harris, warned that students registered on Facebook and under the social network’s age limit of 13 would have their enrolment reviewed.

Winklevoss Twins Back Down From Facebook Suit

Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss have opted not to go to the US Supreme Court with their bid to get out of a deal they made in a lawsuit charging that Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea for Facebook.

A spokesman for the attorneys declined comment on the decision to abandon the suit and said the Winklevoss brothers had no statement.
