Kanye West and Jay-Z “Watch The Throne” — After months of false starts and speculation, Kanye West and Jay-Z’s highly anticipated collaboration Watch The Throne is here and if game-changing songs like “Otis” And “Lift Off” (the latter of which features Beyonce) are any indication, it was well worth the wait.

Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame “1017 Bricksquad Presents… Ferrari Boyz” — Gucci Mane & Waka Flocka Flame have made a lot of non-music related headlines this year, but their long-awaited collaboration Bricksquad Presents… Ferrari Boyz has been generating just as much attention. Mane has said the two of them freestyled the entire album and if that’s true, this duo deserves some type of hip-hop award.

Hell Or Highwater “Begin Again” — Brandon Sailer is best known as the drummer/vocalist for Atreyu but Hell Or Highwater sees him stepping out from behind the drum kit and stripping back the aggression to create a blend of pop rock that has more in common with Three Days Grace than it does Avenged Sevenfold.

The Horrors “Skying” — If you think that there aren’t still bands making quality goth/post-punk, you just aren’t familiar with the Horrors’ music. While it’s still dark enough for brooding teens, songs like “Changing The Rain” also have a U2-esque grandeur that will keep them in your head for weeks.

Trivium “In Waves” — Metallica are still waiting for a challenger to the metal crown and we’ve got our money on Trivium. On their fifth studio album In Waves the the band dial up the melodies without sacrificing an ounce of aggression… it also makes us which that we’d practiced guitar more in high school.

MySpace loses another friend

MySpace might be old hat by social networking standards, but one woman is glad the court system hasn’t completely forgotten about it.

Julie Riggs received some justice in late July when the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a lower court decision and revived her claim that News Corp., previous owner of MySpace, breached an implied promise to pay her for an idea to set up a celebrity verification service on the network, according to a report by the Hollywood Reporter.

Trademark Battle

In an eyebrow-raising trademark battle, Facebook filed suit against adult dating site Shagbook in May. Facebook’s contention: that the world’s largest social network would be “damaged by the issuance of a registration for the mark Shagbook.”

Shagbook has now filed its own opposition, along with counterclaims, with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Google+ 25M Users & Counting

Google is a latecomer to social networking but its new site, Google+, is growing much more rapidly than Facebook, MySpace and Twitter did in their early days, technology experts said.

While Google+ may be the fastest-growing social network ever, it remains to be seen whether it can pose a serious threat to the social networking titan Facebook, which has more than 750 million members.

Terroist Twitter Account Hacked

The hacker group Anonymous has hijacked the Twitter account belonging to Anders Behring Breivik, the man behind the attacks earlier this month in Norway.

The disparaging tweets began Sunday afternoon. They at first were made to look like Breivik himself sent them from prison, but the hackers eventually identified themselves as being part of the loosely affiliated hacker collective.

Bomb Threats On Facebook

Khaled Zakaria, 30, faced Parramatta Bail Court yesterday charged with one count of using a mobile phone to menace or harass and two counts of making hoax threats using a mobile phone.

In documents tendered to the court, police said Mr Zakaria, of Greenacre, threatened to bomb intelligence agency ASIO, stab officers at Goulburn’s super-max jail and ”get” officers at Bankstown police station under the Facebook profiles Kay Zee, Khaled Ibn-Al Walid and Khaled Ibn-Alwalie.

Catch Me On Facebook

The Daily News says US marshals and New York City Police Department detectives tracked Victor Burgos down to an apartment in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood earlier this week, sitting at his computer with his Facebook page open.

The 29-year-old suspect was wanted by Utica police on multiple arrest warrants for domestic violence and harassment of his former girlfriend.

Hollywood In On Social Media

When you think of Bono or Lady Gaga, the term “Silicon Valley entrepreneur” hardly springs to mind.

For now, at least. The U2 frontman and pop sensation join Justin Timberlake and Ashton Kutcher among the growing ranks of celebrities who, rather than employ their star power to hawk consumer products, are increasingly driving high-tech investments.

Microsoft Says Sorry

Microsoft received much Twitter flak after a small PR account for Xbox encouraged followers to remember recently deceased musician Amy Winehouse by buying her last album on the company’s entertainment marketplace, Zune.

After about an hour of retweets - with comments such as “classy”, “crass much?” and “Microsoft – failing at social media” - the account tweeted a follow-up.

Winklevoss Twins At It Again

A US judge has blocked the latest courtroom campaign by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss to undo a deal they made to settle a squabble over who came up with the idea for Facebook.

US District Judge Douglas Woodlock in Boston on Friday granted a request by Facebook that the case there be dismissed. The judge’s terse written order did not outline the reasoning behind his decision.
