MySpace is looking to do an about-face.
The once-red-hot social networking site acquired three years ago by septuagenarian mogul Rupert Murdoch, which landed him on the cover of Wired magazine and won News Corp. praise for embracing the Internet ahead of its old-media rivals, has cooled considerably.

MySpace, the social networking site, has said it will cut almost a third of its staff as it looks to cut costs to compete with increasing competition.
The cuts total about 400 staff, leaving 1,000 people at the struggling unit of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation.

MySpace and other social networking websites are rewiring children's brains making them more self-centered and reducing their attention spans, a neuroscientist has warned.
The nature of communication on the sites could stunt development of the brain, Oxford University neuroscientist Susan Greenfield said.
